Rara Lake Trek

Rara lake lies in the remote northwest of Nepal. Our trek begins at Jumla, the largest city in the hilly area of western Nepal. We climb gradually through mixed woods (oak, pine, chestnut, birch and rhododendron). In the meadows we meet the sheep and their shepherds. The wild animals from this national park are: the brown bear, leopard, black panther, musk deer, red panda, wild boar, rhesus monkey, langur monkeys and numerous bird species. Rara is Nepal's largest lake and lies at an altitude of 3050m. The lake is stunning, surrounded by alpine meadows and dense forests, amidst an incredible peace. During the last four days of the trek, you have a nice view on the Mugu mountain range in the south of Humla and at the border with Tibet. In the last steep section (leading up to the second pass before Jumla) you will pass remote villages surrounded by grassland. From Jumla we fly back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.

Notice: respectful travelling

We ask our guides to choose lodges as much as possible where solar energy is available, instead of lodges which require the use of firewood for cooking and heating. We pay our staff a worthy salary and a good insurance. We also help our staff to get solid trekking materials (coat, shoes). We would like to encourage you to use water purification tablets or drops instead of mineral water in plastic bottles, so as not to leave waste on your way and to ask permission before photographing people or their possessions.

Extra information

If required, we can cater for you to have a longer stay in Nepal after the trek, or travel to another place from Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Take information from your doctor or the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (www.itg.be) concerning the vaccinations needed.

Our guides have sufficient knowledge about altitude sickness and they will assist you in this case if needed. They ensure that the necessary time for acclimatization is respected. Guests who leave the paths or do not follow the advice of the guide, do so at their own responsibility!

Please inform us about any health problems.
